K-Pop demon hunters review
Hello MMM reviewees, Miss MMM here.
First off before we get into today's review, I would like to thank you all for being so patient with me.
I know the waits on reviews have gone up significantly, that's because I'm pretty sick right now so sadly I can't make marvelous reviews as fast as I would like.
But I will do the best I can with the chances God has given me and rely on Him for help.
Now let's get back into the review. Today we are shaking things up with a vibrant musical that just got released on Netflix. K-pop demon hunters let's dive right in! Oh and also spoiler warning if you haven't seen the movie yet!
Central values and moral lessons: The movie has surprisingly deeper morals then one would expect from the surface including not letting past pain or mistakes define you, being honest with your friends and family about your struggles, the value of working together as a team, and not running away from your problems .
However it barely falls shy of mentioning how God can take away the 'patterns', it instead tells the audience to embrace them which doesn't quite work either since sin isn't a teddy bear to embrace but a cobra that envelops you in its poisonous fangs.
Animation:
Vibrant, anime-like. The characters are extremely expressive, fight scenes well-coreographed to the beat of music. Again eye animation can be a bit weird but this movie is packed with eye candy.
Music:
Very many songs! The last one what it sounds like has many christian undertones.
They speak a little Korean but never translate it in the songs.
Soda pop and free are a bit romantic
Your idol is insanely demonic fitting for the demonic villains but probably a skip for the kids
Darkness and boo boos:
As the name suggests, there are many demons in this movie, some might be too visually scary for the average five year old. Many souls are taken in this movie
There is no excessive blood, the demons merely become smoke plus all the fighting is softened by the girls' singing and playful hijinks. There is a bunch of slapstick.
The animation of eyes popping out of people's head and some dark expressions might also cause the littlest ones to squirm a bit.
A tattoo of a heart of the huntrix band is shown on a guys belly.
One of the main characters has gothh-base clothing and style but she's also pretty sweet tough love.
There is a demon king magh-el looks a lot like a fiery satan.
One of the main girls puts makeup on a guy demon as a joke before destroying him.
Bad words:
Nothing maybe a few petty insults like idiot, stupid jerks, suck and freaking
Lovey-dovey stuff:
Hot the romance way. Crazy fan love, ships between girls and guys. No kisses except like during a show to fan.
Romance song plays in the background as a girl and guy meet.
The main girls look at the guys romantically.
The dancing can be a little dovey but not too lovey.
Rumi and Ji nu main singer who is a guy briefly hug.
Says Mina likes two guys but it is not true and its a joke.
A girl looks romantically at a guys picture and its a full blown scene
Grabbing wrists.
Too little clothing:
There are two bathouse scenes, a guy wearing only a towel is in one. Nothing is shown.
The main girls fight demons in the guys bathouse but nothing explicit is shown.
Very many abs are shown. Main characters often have bellies showing other then that nothing explicit is shown.
Potty humor: None except kick their bottoms mention by Zoey.
Final rating: Five out of ten peanut m and ms. I am hash and strict but fair. Definetly an 8th graders and up movie. Despite its many flaws, it is quite an enjoyable movie to watch, and like Raya and the last dragon it very subtly points to Christ as all the best myths do.
To end this I will close with another melissa dougherty skit. This one is about exposing fake Christians like progressive and new ages.
